The Hachi Steering Damper is an add-on product for the Hachi drift chassis. It’s designed to reduce or eliminate the servo jitter that can occur with a direct drive steering system. This jitter is a unique servo issue, unrelated to the gyro. Not all servos experience this problem, and even multiple servos from the same brand may behave differently. Some will jitter, while others won’t. The Hachi Steering Damper is crafted to apply tension to the steering servo, preventing it from oscillating as it attempts to maintain a fixed position.
The steering damper is a 3D-printed part made from PEBA filament, which makes it highly flexible, resembling a large rubber band. The attachment point to the steering plate is offset, ensuring that when the servo is powered up and centered, the damper applies tension. However, it’s flexible enough to allow the servo to make a full steering sweep.
